Meet The Governors

Carole Allen-Smith - Chairperson Foundation Governor - Behaviour for Learning/SEND/Safeguarding

I became a governor at Markskbury School, firstly to be active within the school community and secondly to participate in the education of children.

I am an Early Years specialist with an Early Years degree. I have two job roles, working with our very youngest and vulnerable children and their families in the home and community and supporting Ofsted registered childminders within the Local Authority. Providing children’s earliest education experiences to beginning their formal education journey and beyond, this has always been my vocation.

I also bring a wealth of experience for Safeguarding children as a practitioner and as an adult tutor, and knowledge and skills of supporting children with SEND.

Since becoming a parent governor when my three children were attending the school, I now represent our founding body. It has been my privilege to support this thriving, fantastic school, during my years as a governor.

Sandra Harding - Vice-chairperson
Co-opted Curriculum for Learning

Sandra is a qualified and registered physiotherapist with more than thirty years’ experience in the public and private healthcare sector. She has managed several clinical services, an independent hospital and more latterly the national physiotherapy service for BMI Healthcare which covered 58 sites and more than750 staff. In 2017 she resigned from her national physiotherapy role to start a physiotherapy advisory service supporting other clinicians. She believes everyone has a right to education and that learning never stops. She is also a long serving primary school governor, a Winston Churchill Fellow, a foodie and has two daughters who both attended Marksbury School many years ago.

Amanda Ward – Co-opted - Premises

Since moving into the village, in 2014, as a qualified primary teacher, it has been my pleasure to get to know the children and staff of Marksbury School through voluntary work, once or twice per week, in both Reception, Key Stage 1 and 2 . I bring to the role of governor, a professional background in both business, primary education and premises/events management. I have also served as a governor of another local primary school in the past. As a governor at Marksbury CE Primary School, I hope to use my varied skills base to contribute to the ongoing development of this small but outstanding village school, where every child is known individually and matters.

Tony Caisley - Foundation Governor Religious Education

I was delighted to be asked to become a foundation governor at Marksbury School. I retired from teaching in 2012 after a thirty-five year career, teaching mainly Year 5 and 6. During that time I spent eight years as a teacher governor. I have been a churchwarden at Marksbury Church for many years.

Claire Weinburg - Parent Governor Health & Safety

Both my daughters attended Marksbury School before moving on to secondary school. I’ve been involved with the school as a parent since 2012 when we received an immensely warm welcome into the Marksbury family, after moving from the USA. I’m proud to be able to help the school and its staff in achieving their aims to enable our children to gain the knowledge, skills and qualities to be successful as they grow up and to reach their full potential. I have been a specialist Health and Safety professional within the Higher Education Sector for a number of years and took on the role of link H&S governor in 2016 with the aim of sharing my experience in safety and risk management to support the school.

Kim Eyres - Parent Governor Finance

I have been a governor for five years and I have responsibility for overseeing the Finances, ensuring that we use our budget to best effect in this thriving school. I have three daughters, all attending Marksbury. While I now run my own business I have a background in Education Finance and Audit. It is an honour and a pleasure for me to offer something back to this marvellous school.

Anna Langley – Co-opted – Assessment for Learning

I feel very privileged to become part of the Marksbury School Governor team. I am a resident of Marksbury and hope my children will attend the school in the future. I am a qualified Secondary teacher and am currently working in Special Educational needs. I feel that my knowledge and experiences in education will support Marksbury school and help to keep our school a success.

Julie Player - Head Teacher Strategic Direction

Julie has been Headteacher since 2015.

Adele Webb - Deputy HeadTeacher Behaviour for Learning

Adele is the current year 5/6 teacher.

Martin Ward - Clerk to the Governors

With over forty-years’ experience in education as a secondary school teacher in a senior leadership role, although officially retired, he still teaches part-time and feels privileged to serve the school in his home village.
